AMAZON

The Rundown: Amazon just announced a new partnership with Hyundai to allow car purchases directly on the e-commerce giant’s platform starting in 2024 — a first for the company.

The details:

  • Select Hyundai dealers can list new vehicle inventory, while customers can browse and schedule delivery/pickup from the local dealer.

  • Alexa and AWS will also be integrated into Hyundai vehicles and operations as part of the deal.

  • Amazon has been slowly expanding into the automotive sector with virtual showrooms and parts sales.

The relevance: Just when you thought you’d seen it all on Amazon! This partnership could further disrupt traditional distribution models — especially with younger buyers who would rather shop online than in a car dealership.

SKYRYSE

The Rundown: Aviation startup Skyryse just developed the world's first automated autorotation system, allowing helicopters to safely land without power.

The details:

  • Autorotation landings are difficult emergency maneuvers pilots perform when engines fail.

  • Skyryse's system immediately recognizes autorotation landings — managing pitch, speed, flare, and other landing procedures.

  • Test pilots completed the first full automated autorotation landing in a Robinson R66 helicopter.

  • The tech aims to bring commercial airline safety levels to private helicopter flights.

Our thoughts: Helicopter flight isn’t for the faint of heart — and takes extreme skill for even the most experienced pilots. This new system can automate split-second decisions necessary in potentially life-or-death situations.
